Megan has tubes

We went to the ENT on Wed to discuss whether or not to go through with getting tubes. Her right ear was still clear but her left was gross again. That made the decision very easy - tubes it is!

Megan had her surgery this morning. Megan was a pretty good sport about the whole thing. Maybe having the tv on with coverage of the royal wedding helped :-) Obviously she cried a lot after but she fell asleep in the car on the way home. When we got home the first thing she did was crawl up the steps. She has never done that before, although she hasn't been near them very many times either. Around 11:15 we put Megan down for a nap and she slept for a few hours. She woke up in a good mood and is hopefully back to her usual, happy self.

Mount Soda

I turned around and saw that Megan had pulled herself into standing position. She had pulled herself up on the boxes of soda Shawn had piled in the kitchen. I was only able to get a picture on my cell phone, but here it is.

Passover

Tonight Megan tried some matza. I gave her a few bites or my piece and she seemed to like it. When I later got another piece out she started screaming for it. She didn't seem to understand that I had to butter it first before I gave it to her. After she finally got her pieces of matza, she was happy again.

I also gave Megan some charoset. At first I was just giving her the apples out of it. Then I thought, as long as the apples touched the walnuts, I might as well give her a bite of walnut too. So we can now say that Megan has tried her first nut.

Pointing

Over the past few days, Megan has been doing a lot of pointing. At first, she was pointing to the cat. Then she started pointing at the fan. Last night she was pointing at Shawn's blueberry muffin and really wanted a piece! Tonight when she went upstairs to bed, Megan pointed at every light on the way to her room.

It is exciting that she is communicating with us, even if we don't always know what she means or wants.

Standing More

Over the weekend, Megan did a lot better standing up. She didn't cry when we helped her stand. We also bought some size 2 shoes at Target to give her a little better support. Daycare has been requesting that we get her some tennis shoes to go outside in.

When the teachers saw how much better Megan did with standing on Monday, they thought it was the shoes. I think she just finally wants to stand.

Teeth coming in?

Megan was very cranky on Saturday and she had lots of drool on Saturday and Sunday. I'm guessing that she is teething. She woke up last night around 11 screaming so we gave her some Tylenol and held her a little while. That seemed to do the trick and she ended up sleeping until 8:45 this morning!

I just hope she doesn't get a fever tomorrow and get kicked out of daycare.

Clear Ears

The pediatrician said Megan's ears look great. She wants us to reconsider doing the tubes. She thinks that since summer is coming that we should wait and see how Megan does. If she gets sick again in the fall we can do them then. She wants to keep Megan on a low dose antibiotic until the end of May when the nice weather hits.
(The doctor also mentioned that she saw Megan's molars coming in.)

We called the ENT and he wants to see Megan again before we decide to cancel. That is nice that he wants to see her again to discuss it. But Shawn and I have some deciding to do.

13 Months Old

Megan is 13 months old today! I am sad to say that I will no longer be doing monthly pictures of her with the sign. I will also no longer be doing "watch me grow" pictures. She is getting older and it is harder to take pictures. It was fun while it lasted.
Maybe when Megan is older, I can start to take pictures again.

Sick Megan

On Monday, Megan was kicked out of daycare for having a slight fever. This meant she couldn't go back on Tuesday. Luckily grandma Char came down to watch her for the day so Shawn and I could go to work. I came home around 2:00 and Megan was burning up. We took her to the doctor who said Megan's ears looked terrible. We already knew Megan had an ear infection, she had been antibiotics since Wednesday. The doctor thought we should try antibiotic shots. So Tues, Wed, and Thurs poor Megan got a shot in her leg. She did ok the first two times, but Thursday night she was not very happy. As soon as she saw the nurse, she started screaming. She was difficult at dinner and didn't do much smiling the rest of the night. I'm hoping that tomorrow she will be in a better mood.

End of the breast milk

Take a good look at our garage freezer. This is the very last bag of frozen breast milk. Once this bag is gone, Megan will finally be on whole milk exclusively. My plan is to continue to heat her milk this week and then switch her to cold milk next weekend.

Standing in my crib

Megan was making a lot of noise when I went to get her this morning. When I walked in, I discovered that she had figured out how to stand up in her crib. The problem is that Megan hates to stand because she hasn't figured out yet how to get down. She just stands and eventually screams until someone helps her get down.

Megan is getting tubes

Megan is scheduled for surgery on Friday April 29th. Shawn and I are both going to take the day off work to take care of her.

She won't be allowed to eat for so many hours before the surgery. Because children are too young to understand that, they are scheduled for the first appointments of the day. (That way they don't get too hungry.) We won't find out the exact time until the date before surgery. It will depend on if there are children younger than her that will go first.

I sure hope it helps!!
